Walt Lemon Jr. earned his first ever NBA playing time under a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. Lemon Jr. earned that NBA Call-Up on February 21, 2018. Prior to the call-up, Lemon was averaging 22.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game, shooting 49.0 percent from the field for the Mad Ants.
At the conclusion of his first 10-day contract, the Pelicans would give Lemon Jr. a second 10-day contract, extending his time with the team.
Over those 20 days, Lemon Jr. appeared in five games with New Orleans. He made his NBA debut two days after signing his initial contract in a 124–123 overtime win over the Miami Heat, playing in four minutes that night. Lemon Jr. averaged 3.4 points and one assist per game over seven minutes per contest in those five games.
