Stephan Hicks took on a mentor role for the Mad Ants in the 2024-25 season. Hicks became the first Mad Ants player to play eight seasons, and he holds the franchise record in wins and games played. The veteran guard made it known during the season that he would retire at the end of the season.

Hicks appeared in nine games during the Tip-off Tournament and averaged 13.4 minutes per game. His most notable performance during this portion of the schedule came on November 18th against Iowa. He scored 13 points while making three of his six field goal attempts.

In the regular season portion of the schedule, the veteran guard appeared in 13 games while averaging a little over 14 minutes per game. Hicks scored in double figures three times on February 3rd, 4th and 12th. He turned back the clock with a 15-point, 15-rebound performance in College Park on February 12th. It was the third time in his career that he recorded 15 rebounds and the first time since 2019.

The Mad Ants surprised Hicks with a retirement ceremony on March 24th. This included his mother and fiancé being flown in and joining him on the bench pregame. During halftime, he was honored with a commemorative basketball, framed jersey and a banner. A tribute video played showing some of his highlights and interviews from coaches and GMs that have crossed his path. The team wore custom Steph Hicks t-shirt jerseys during the game. Battling the emotions, Hicks got the start and drained a three in his lone field goal attempt of the day.
